The economic consequences of the Covid-19 crisis are likely to affect regions within countries very differently, depending on their areas of economic activity and the policies in place to support workers and firms. The importance of tourism and local consumption – including retail stores and restaurants along with culture and entertainment – partially explains the relatively higher number of jobs potentially at risk in tourist destinations and metropolitan areas.
