SMEs are major employers and particularly vulnerable to the impact of the Covid-19 crisis

Many countries put into place lockdown measures in order to curb the spread of COVID-19. The economic sectors most directly affected include such key activities as transport manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade, air transport, accommodation and food services, real estate, professional services, and other personal services (arts, entertainment and recreation activities, hairdressing, etc.). On average across OECD countries, these sectors represent 40% of total employment, and within these sectors, SMEs account for 75% of jobs.
