SMEs and SME finance are high on the agenda of the G20 and other international fora such as APEC and the G7.
The OECD contributes to work on SME finance under each G20 Presidency. In particular, the OECD supports the G20 Finance Track work on SME finance. As an implementing partner of the G20 Global Partnership on Financial Inclusion (GPFI), the OECD is contributing to the development of the new G20 GPFI MSME Action Plan under the Brazilian Presidency. It also developed the 2022 Updated G20/OECD High-Level Principles on SME Financing, building on the 2015 Principles and the 2018 G20/OECD Effective Approaches for Implementing the G20/OECD High-Level Principles on SME Financing. The OECD SME and Entrepreneurship Finance Scoreboard supports better SME finance data collection and policy monitoring in the GPFI.
OECD work on SME financing also feeds into the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group. In 2022, the expansion of the OECD Platform on Financing SMEs for Sustainability was recognized by G20 Leaders as a contribution to a strong and inclusive recovery.
