The vital role of SMEs in the recovery

While digital tools have become vital for business continuity during COVID-19, digital adoption among smaller companies – which account for 99% of businesses in OECD countries – has historically lagged behind larger companies.

Closing that gap is crucial: more than 50% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have increased their use of digital tools during the pandemic, while government recovery packages have placed a priority on digitalising, reskilling and greening SMEs.
