How have each DAC member’s contributions to multilateral organisations evolved over the past decade? What type of funding modalities does the DAC member favour?
Core contributions are resources that multilateral organisations can use flexibly within the parameters set by their governing boards to support their strategic priorities and operational stability. Earmarked contributions are resources that donors earmark for specific programmes or projects, allowing them to expand their activities beyond what would be possible with core funding alone.
Both are vital for a well-functioning multilateral system, and maintaining a good balance between the two ensures that funding is available to address both short and long-term challenges.
This chart shows the evolution of core and earmarked contributions from DAC members over time.
