Why a tool?
The tool shows the distance of 600+ regions and 600+ cities to end values for 2030 for the 17 SDGs. It also compares the performance with other regions and cities in their country and helps identify peers in other countries. The tool aims to foster peer-learning and policy dialogues across similar regions and cities, increase accountability of governments with regards to the SDGs, and raise SDGs awareness across the society at large.
A role for regions and cities to leave no one behind.
The OECD estimates that at least 105 out of the 169 targets underlying the 17 SDGs will not be reached without proper engagement of and coordination with regional and local governments. Most underlying policies and investments are a shared responsibility across levels of government. Through the Territorial Approach to the SDGs, the OECD is supporting regions and cities to develop, implement and monitor strategies to achieve the SDGs.
