Indonesia has committed to reaching net-zero emissions by 2060 or before, with the ambition to decarbonise the industry sector by 2050. The OECD “Framework for industry’s net-zero transition”, developed as part of the OECD Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA), is a step-by-step approach to identify and assess enabling solutions (such as policy and regulations) and financing instruments to accelerate industry’s transition. Supporting Indonesia’s efforts towards net-zero emissions, this Framework covers the iron and steel and the textile sectors in the country.
This kick-off meeting launched the implementation of the Framework for the iron and steel sector. It convened representatives from national and international industry actors, finance institutions, policy institutions and civil society organisations. Participants discussed the key challenges that the steel sector faces in accelerating its decarbonisation and suggested potential focus areas for the Framework, i.e. projects and processes or technologies that can be instrumental in reducing sector emissions.
