Thailand aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, as well as net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2065. Based on its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the country commits to reducing its GHG emissions by between 30% and 40% compared to the projected business-as-usual level by 2030. In collaboration with the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), the OECD will implement the Framework to support Thailand’s decarbonisation journey. After a one-year stakeholder consultation period, the petrochemical industry and the plasthc value chain has been selected as the Focus Area of the Framework.
Following up on the official kickoff meeting that took place on 15 February 2024 in Bangkok, the OECD organised a workshop to inform the selection of relevant low-carbon routes for decarbonizing the petrochemical industry and the plastic value chain in Thailand. The workshop focused on providing insights and inputs related to the different decarbonisation options mentioned above.
