Since the inauguration of the Egypt-OECD Country Programme launched in 2021, under Pillar 5 on Sustainable Development, the OECD has been implementing the Framework for industry’s net-zero transition: Developing financing solutions in emerging and developing economies, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy. The objective of the Framework implementation is to identify the required enabling investment conditions and financing solutions to enhance the bankability of low-carbon hydrogen projects for decarbonising Egypt’s domestic industries and for exports.
Building on the success of the first stakeholder workshop organised on 31 January 2024, in collaboration with the United Nations Industry Development Organization (UNIDO), the OECD and the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) successfully held a second workshop on “Low Carbon Hydrogen Development in Egypt” on May 29, 2024.
The event welcomed over 100 participants from the Government, and industry and financing sectors, actively engaged in in-depth discussions, and it provided invaluable feedback to guide the progress of the OECD’s low carbon hydrogen programme in Egypt.
The objectives of the stakeholder workshop were to:
• Present implementation progress of the OECD's Framework for Industry's Net-Zero Transition in Egypt.
• Foster open dialogue and encourage detailed discussions among private sector stakeholders regarding the challenges and potential for developing low-carbon hydrogen in Egypt.
• Facilitate an environment conducive to exploring innovative solutions and collaborative strategies to overcome obstacles and maximise the growth of low-carbon hydrogen initiatives in Egypt.
