Since the last edition of the Western Balkans Competitiveness Outlook publication, Albania has made significant advancements, positively progressing across 14 of the 15 assessed policy dimensions and outperforming the regional average in 13 of these policy areas. However, despite this progress, there is still substantial room for the economy to further bolster its competitiveness, better align with OECD and EU good standards and practices, and ultimately accelerate its pace of convergence toward OECD and EU counterparts.
Drawing on the findings of the Albania economy profile of the Western Balkans Competitiveness Outlook 2024 publication series, the objective of this meeting was to present and discuss Albania’s main achievements and challenges, while also offering the chance to reflect on developments that have occurred since the end of the assessment period. Additionally, it provided an opportunity to explore policy options, particularly for strengthening the governance of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
