International dialogue event on cross-border governance

This international dialogue event, organised by the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities (CFE), and DG REGIO, European Commission, will facilitate exchange and debate on cross-border governance among EU Member States, OECD Member countries and beyond. It will bring together experts to discuss practical examples of cross-border cooperation, including initiatives to strengthen economic development, boost public service delivery and improve citizen well-being in border communities.

The event also serves as a platform to discuss the main findings from the “Building More Resilient Cross-border Regions” project and key recommendations for international, national, and subnational policy makers. Through different thematic sessions, the event will explore topics such as:

• Regulatory frameworks supporting cross-border cooperation at the subnational level.
• Cross-border governance and decision-making structures (e.g. coordination bodies, networks).
• Cross-border development planning, including spatial development.
• Cross-border economic development, including a focus on transportation and cross-border workers.
• Cross-border service delivery (e.g. healthcare, disaster-risk management and nature conservation).

This event is primarily open to representatives from cross-border governance initiatives and representatives from national and subnational governments, international organisations and institutions (e.g. European Commission, international financial institutions) and researchers working on cross-border governance initiatives. 

• In-person participation: Registration is open until Friday, 11 October. As seating is limited, the OECD may not be able to accommodate all requests. Participants will be notified regarding their in-person attendance.
• Online participation: Registration is open until Friday, 22 November. Registered participants will receive the practical information (e.g. Zoom link) and the event agenda.
