Health system performance

As the world changes, so must the approach to how health system performance is assessed. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed that health systems were underprepared and therefore not as resilient as they should have been. This has led to calls for urgent action to ensure that health systems are more resilient to future shocks, and prepared for ageing populations and increasing digitalisation.

These seismic shifts present not only an immense challenge but also an opportunity to chart a path towards building greener, more sustainable and more resilient health systems

The OECD’s renewed HSPA Framework emphasises people-centredness, placing people’s needs and preferences at the core of health systems. People-centredness is both an objective of health systems and instrumental to achieving other policy objectives.
