Ambassador Esen Altuğ took up her duties as Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the OECD on 6 November 2024.
Ambassador Altuğ began her career at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985 as Third Secretary in the Department for Maritime and Aviation Issues. She held various positions, including Third Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and Second Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. From 1991 to 1993, she served as Second Secretary in the Department of Maritime and Aviation Affairs. In 1993, she became Consul at the Turkish Consulate General in Münster, Germany, and later served as First Secretary and Chief of Section, Head of the Department for Western Europe in 1997.
In 2005, she became Head of the Department for Regional and Transboundary Waters. She was then appointed Consul General at the Turkish Consulate General in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2007. In 2011, she became Head of the Department for Multilateral Economic Affairs, and in 2013, she was named Deputy Director General for Migration, Asylum, and Visa Issues.
From 2016 to 2021, Ambassador Altuğ served as the Ambassador of Türkiye to the Republic of Slovenia. Before her appointment as Permanent Representative to the OECD, she had been the Director General for International Economic Affairs since May 2021.
Ambassador Altuğ is married and has one child. She completed her education at TED Ankara College and the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University, followed by an MBA from the International University Audentes in Tallinn, Estonia. She is fluent in English and has intermediate proficiency in French.
