This half-day financing workshop will discuss the state of play on financing options for a global plastics treaty and pathways for implementation. It will engage participants representing Member States, the private sector (including investors and financial service providers), development finance institutions, donors, civil society and other experts.

This breakfast meeting will explore policy effectiveness in practice, covering 2 main themes: 1) How to better tailor action plans to ensure effectiveness? 2) How to streamline policy and efforts across the plastics landscape, and in concert with other policy areas (such as climate, health, trade) to reduce the load on capacity and resources?

Ending Plastic Pollution: Spotlight on South and Southeast Asia | 16:00 – 17:30 KST

This event aims to propose strategies to scale up practices and policies to end plastic pollution in Southeast Asia and discuss how their implementation could be accelerated. It will contribute to a better understanding of the challenge of plastic pollution in the region; interventions required to end plastic pollution; successful domestic initiatives that can be replicated across borders; key opportunities to enhance ASEAN co-operation; and strategies for scaling up public and private finance

Towards a common understanding of the potential of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in the context of the Plastics Treaty | 11:30 – 12:30 KST

The event will bring different perspectives together and will address a number of questions that have come up during the negotiations and intersessional work. The discussion will provide clarity on two key potential roles that EPR could play in the context of a global plastics treaty, as 1) a potential control measure and 2) a means of implementation.
