Since 2014, the OECD Government Foresight Community (GFC) has brought together leading strategic foresight practitioners and leads in the public sector (governments and international organisations). It aims to strengthen foresight capacity by drawing on collective experience and bringing futures insights to bear on key challenges of our times. The GFC also serves as an informal network for collaboration and co-ordination among public sector foresight practitioners and contributes to OECD foresight projects.
OECD Government Foresight Community (GFC)
The OECD Government Foresight Community (GFC) brings together public sector strategic foresight practitioners and leads to exchange information and content on the latest foresight developments in government for better policy making. The GFC has three major series of events throughout the year – an annual in-person GFC meeting in October on methodological and thematic issues, an annual virtual GFC Day in April for community exchanges, and regular virtual GFC masterclass seminar series with leading experts in the field of strategic foresight.

Our activities
This high-level in-person meeting in the OECD Headquarters in October every year is devoted to the methodology and institutionalisation of strategic foresight (first day) and to the application of strategic foresight to thematic issues (second day). Participation is by invitation only given capacity constraints. Recordings of the opening remarks by the Secretary-General and a meeting summary are available online.
Fully virtual meeting of the GFC to discuss foresight projects, supported by contributions from the Community. Participation is open and a meeting summary is available online.
2024 GFC Virtual Day (25 April)
This full day online event was dedicated to further enhance government strategic foresight capacities for crafting innovative and resilient public policies. It provided a platform for extensive dialogue on foresight methodologies, innovations, and practical experiences in their application to policy making.
Regular virtual seminars, open to foresight practitioners across the world, with a talk by leading foresight experts followed by Q & A. Recordings of the speakers’ talk and presentations are available online.
