Effective climate action relies on clear GHG emission targets and the operationalisation of a mitigation strategy. Although climate goals need to be delivered globally, in the context of the Paris Agreement framework, the targets and measures designed to achieve them are set by governments at the national level. However, there is evidence that, overall, these targets are not sufficient to achieve the Paris Agreement temperature goals, that is there is an ambition gap. This section draws on official GHG emission data, as well as GHG emissions targets expressed in physical units with a methodology developed by IPAC.
Climate Action Dashboard
The Climate Action Dashboard features key indicators to track progress towards climate objectives and provide a snapshot of country climate action. The Dashboard has four main building blocks starting with the status of greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions. It describes their developments in activities or sectors, impacts on climate and the environment and the associated risks and vulnerabilities, the policies and actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change, and the derived socio-economic opportunities that contribute to a just transition.
