This note complements and extends the work carried out by the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme (ECP) on assessing the impact of global shocks on the economies of Central Asia. The work was realised within the framework of the OECD Central Asia Initiative funded by the European Union (EU).
This report was prepared under the guidance of Mr Andreas Schaal, Director of the OECD Directorate for Global Relations and Co-operation, and Mr William Tompson, Head of the OECD Eurasia Division. The project was managed by Mr Grégory Lecomte, Head of the Central Asia Unit, and coordinated by Ms Amélie Schurich-Rey, Economist and Policy Analyst, OECD Eurasia Division.
The authors of this report are Ms Amélie Schurich-Rey and Ms Céleste Laporte-Talamon, Policy Analysts, OECD Eurasia Division, with significant contributions of Mr Dylan van de Ven, Junior Policy Analyst in the same Division. Valuable analytical support was provided by Mr Fikrat Valehli, Mr Hugo Brisebard, and Ms Shamima Oshurbekova, Junior Policy Analysts in the OECD Eurasia Division. Ms Anna Chahtahtinsky and Ms Elisa Larrakoetxea, Programme Administrators in the OECD Eurasia Division, provided unfailing administrative and logistical support.
The project would not have been possible without the continuous support and dialogue with representatives of ministries and state agencies, the private sector, business associations, international organisations, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders across the countries covered in this note.
Preliminary findings were discussed, in June 2022 for Kyrgyzstan and October 2022 for Mongolia, with government and private sector representatives on the occasion of two webinars. The OECD would like to express its gratitude to the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Economic Development of Mongolia for their support, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank, and the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for their participation in these event.
